After a fresh system/kernel rebuild, it now appears my FreeBSD system and flash9 are hug !
Thanks for you and your colleages' efforts. It was none of my doing, all I did was install it on my PC.

System is FreeBSD 7.1 PRERELEASE (just RELENG_7 in my sup file). The linux_base I'm using is linux_base-f8. Browser is native Firefox 2.0.0.17.

The sites I frequent are doing great. Bouncing Grin Want me to try a particular site that gave you trouble?

Since ages I have tried to install linux-flashplugin9, without success, using native firefox or linux-firefox.
Sometimes something worked, but on the whole the browser was not operational.
Since some months I switched to linux-firefox which ran well on sites which generally do not require
more than flashplugin7 (e.g. www.marianne2.fr, www.rue89.com), but video does not work on
www.spiegel.de (which is a shame because I am German :-)). The Spiegel requires flash8 !
Recently I lost linux-firefox, apparently because I had installed some libraries from linux_base-f8
required to drive a Samsung printer under CUPS (SCX-4200). Linux-firefox did not start at all.
Beg your pardon for this long introduction.
So I went back to native firefox.
Now firefox-2.0.0.18,1 and linux-flashplugin-7.0r73_1 work alright, the latter one easily installed with
nspluginwrapper-1.0.0. There seems to be a problem though with nspluginwrapper:
Running `nspluginwrapper -l' generates "Segmentation fault (core dumped)". Does luckily no harm.
As the `-i' option worked fine, I `pkg_delete'd linux-flashplugin7 and `portmaster'ed linux-flashplugin9.
No luck here: firefox starts, but gets blocked, together with some terminal windows. I have to kill
firefox and something related with nspluginwrapper (I don't remember exactly now).
For the Samsung printer config I had to add the following line in /etc/make.conf.
OVERRIDE_LINUX_BASE_PORT=f8
I suppose this line must stay there.
Could the flash9 problem be related to the fact that both linux_base-fc-4_13 and linux_base-f8-8_9
reside in the system ?
Thank you in advance for any help.

Indeed it could. You should only have one linux_base.

In order to install the Samsung printer stuff, an important instruction was to add the OVERRIDE_LINUX_BASE_PORT=f8 line
in /etc/make.conf. I must admit that I do not understand what it exactly means.
I would like to understand that before reinstalling all packages depending on linux_base-fc-4_13 (25 packages).

Yes, you are certainly right. I finally found a good explanation in /usr/ports/UPDATING.
So. I must forget the Samsung printer and roll back to linux_base-fc.

There remains a question I could have asked you last time already.
You are using linux_base-f8 and linux-flashplugin9, and the latter depends on linux_base-fc.
How is this possible ?

So I have rolled back to linux_base-fc4.
And as usual, I cannot get linux_flashplugin9 to work, neither with linux-firefox nor native firefox versions 2 or 3.
It seems really hopeless.
I would like to know how many FreeBSD users in the world are able to play flash9 videos.
Ok, I know it's more important to read the articles on www.spiegel.de ...

Thanks for the link from Jan 26, hawei. Praise you! I forgot about the fstab trick, and just recovered my system from an HD failure ... That did the trick!

How is it possible? Well, I just force it by running "make install" myself in the port's directory, rather than using portmaster or portupgrade all the time. Then when running "pkgdb -F" afterwards, I tell it to change the dependency.
